Snipe & Recall Commands
Recover recently deleted messages and emoji reactions in your Discord server. SYNTHET provides three distinct commands for viewing deleted content, each with different permission levels and use cases.
Command Overview
SYNTHET maintains a buffer of recently deleted messages in each channel. The three commands provide different levels of access to this data:
/snipe (or !snipe)
Mod OnlyView the most recently deleted message in the current channel. Requires Manage Messages permission.
/snipe
!snipe
/s (or !s)
EveryoneRecall command — view recently deleted messages. Available to all members, no special permissions needed.
/s
!s
/cs (or !cs)
Mod OnlyChannel snipe — view recently deleted messages in the current channel with additional context. Requires Manage Messages permission.
/cs
!cs
Permission Requirements
Snipe commands have different permission levels to balance moderation needs with community access:
| Command | Permission | Access Level |
|---|---|---|
| /snipe, !snipe | Manage Messages | Mod Only |
| /s, !s | None | Everyone |
| /cs, !cs | Manage Messages | Mod Only |
Why different permissions?
/s and !s are quick recall commands available to all members for recovering their own accidentally deleted messages. The full /snipe and /cs commands are reserved for moderators for content moderation purposes.
How Snipe Works
The snipe feature maintains a buffer of recently deleted messages in each channel. When a message is deleted, it's stored temporarily so authorized users can view it later.
Buffer Details
Snipe stores the last 50 deleted messages per channel. Messages older than that are automatically removed from the buffer to save memory. Only messages deleted after the bot joined the server are captured.
Snipe Display
When you use any snipe command, the bot displays a rich embed with:
Message Content
The full text of the deleted message as it was before deletion
Author Info
Who originally sent the deleted message (username and avatar)
Timestamp
When the message was originally sent and when it was deleted
Attachments
If the deleted message contained images or files, links are shown (if still cached by Discord)
Use Cases
Moderation
Moderators can catch rule-breaking content that was quickly deleted before staff could act, using /snipe or /cs
Quick Recovery
Any member can use /s to recover messages they or others accidentally deleted in a conversation
Audit Trail
Staff can track what was deleted and investigate situations where content was removed
Important Notes
Things to Know
- • Snipe only stores messages deleted after the bot joins the server
- • The buffer holds up to 50 messages per channel; older deletions are lost
- •
/snipeand/csrequire Manage Messages — members without this permission will see an error - •
/sis available to everyone and has no permission requirements - • Both slash commands and prefix commands (!) respect the same permission rules
